About Costa Rica

Receives the admiration of both ecotourists for its abundance of fauna and flora as well as pensioners trees: no military or nuclear plants, no winter, there is little illiteracy and culture. As a neutral and friendly to foreigners, Costa Rica is ideal for those looking to retire from the occupations of a professional or business life.
Costa Rica is in Central America between Panama and Nicaragua. It’s a little larger than Switzerland, with just 50,000 km2 of extension. 10% of the 3.4 million inhabitants live in San Jose, and more than half the population lives in the Central Valley, occupying less than 20% of the country. There are several active volcanoes, Irazu, Poas, Rincon de la Vieja and Arenal, the most active of all with eruptions every 15 minutes. The highest mountain is Cerro Chirripo which reaches 3,820 m or 12,000 feet. The coast stretches for 1,800 km and has three peninsulas (Osa, Nicoya, and Papagayo). About one sixth of the national territory has been protected as national parks and wildlife reserves, covering more than the floor area of Switzerland. The country also has the famous Cocos Island, located about 500 km off the Pacific coast. 80% of the population is of Spanish origin. Most black and mulatto populations (7%) live in the port city of Limon on the Caribbean, or on its outskirts. About 40,000 Indians live in forests removed. Currently, some 250,000 foreigners live in the country.
